Dear Parents & Students,

I would like to welcome you all back to school for the 2016/17 school year. The excitement is growing with the custodial staff putting the finishing touches on the building, teachers organizing their rooms, and students finding out who their new teacher(s) will be. The anticipation of a new year is palpable for students, teachers, parents, and administration. I personally love the summer months but get energized by the jitters and anticipation of the first day and new year!

The last few years at Wausaukee Elementary have been packed with new curriculum and initiatives, such as Readers’ & Writers’ Workshop, New York Engage, Standards Based Grading, and a focus on parent engagement. To the teacher’s relief this year is not going to be about adding new, rather it will be about deepening their knowledge,  practice, and classroom application of these curricula and initiatives. We have a dedicated and driven staff who have been hard at work over the course of the summer being students themselves and working together to improve programs for our students and school.

In the past months we have said goodbye to a few teachers and welcomed several new faces to our community of learners. I would not consider myself a new face as I have been working in the district for the past 11 years, however my role has changed as I embark on this year as the elementary principal and director of pupil services. Along with me on this journey, I am pleased to be joined by the following teams/teachers:

  • Electric Early Childhood/4K: Emily Hausher & Sarah Primakow

  • Charismatic Kindergarten: Melissa Shaw & Lisa Mongin

  • Fabulous First Grade: Kim Oles

  • Spectacular Second Grade: Mandy Allman & Ryanne Deschane

  • Thrilling Third Grade: Megan Graetz & Jenni Russ

  • Fascinating Fourth Grade: Jeff Leslie & Sarah Powell

  • Fantastic Fifth Grade: Laurie Caine-Fick

  • Stupendous Sixth Grade: Donna Pintarelli & Sue Zahorik

  • Sensational Interventionists, Specials, & Special Education: Lisa Delfosse (Math), Jen Hammes (speech), Georgi Kapalczynski (grades 4-6), Maria Knepel (OT), Cheri Leiphart (art), Page Lewandowski (PT),  Sarah Thompson (library media specialist), Kim Marsolek (grades 1-3), Kayla Moser (Reading), Paul Moser (PE), Brian Thell (music), Bobbi Tracy (Reading) & Rosalie Widstrand (band)

  • Outstanding Others: Noreen Krisher (Nurse), Mel Lindbeck (school social worker), Carol Primakow (secretary)

As we begin the school year, I would like to emphasize the importance of student and parent participation in the adventure of education. My door is always open for questions, concerns, celebrations, or conversations, please feel free to stop by.

Yours in learning,

Katey Ambrose
